Nephi continues to create the argument for belief by adding Zenos’s name to the catalogue of ancient believers in Messianic prophecies along with unnamed “many prophets.” Nephites who believed in the scriptures, particularly the brass plates, would venerate these prophets. As noted in “Excursus: Religion of the Nehors,” following Alma 1, the Nehor heresy accepted the brass plates even while rejecting the Atoning Messiah. Perhaps the Gadiantons followed a similar pattern. If so, that would be an even more relevant reason why Nephi used these particular examples.
