Because they have turned away from Yahweh, who can save them, he will instead “scatter you forth that ye shall become meat for dogs and wild beasts.” This curse—or rather, prophecy—evokes the penalty of the foundational promise to Lehi. (See commentary accompanying 2 Nephi 1:9.) Without Yahweh’s protection, the Nephite civilization will disintegrate.
