Why is it important to chose to believe?

Thomas R. Valletta

“When problems come and questions arise, do not start your quest for faith by saying how much you do not have, leading as it were with your ‘unbelief.’ … I am not asking you to pretend to faith you do not have. I am asking you to be true to the faith you do have. Sometimes we act as if an honest declaration of doubt is a higher manifestation of moral courage than is an honest declaration of faith. It is not! … If you and your family want to be healed, don’t let those questions stand in the way of faith working its miracle” (Holland, “Lord, I Believe,” 94).

Transforming Experiences in Lamanite History (Helaman 5:50–6:8)
“Notice the dramatic and transforming first-time experiences in the long history of the Lamanites:
“1. The majority of the Lamanites were converted to the gospel.
“2. The Lamanites laid down their weapons and their hatred and false traditions.
“3. They freely yielded up the land that belonged to the Nephites.
“4. The majority of the Lamanites became more righteous than the Nephites.
“5. The Lamanites began to preach the gospel to the Nephites.
“6. There was peace in all the land.
“7. The Lamanites and Nephites had open travel and free trade with one another” (Ogden and Skinner, Book of Mormon, 2:89).
