As with all faithful servants of the Lord, Nephi and Lehi spoke with such power and authority that people were astonished and thousands upon thousands were converted and “baptized unto repentance.” Despite their great success they were imprisoned, as were other prophets before them (see Alma 14:17-24; Alma 21:13-14). Because of their faith and righteousness they even turned a prison into a temple—a site of miraculous manifestations and occurrences, a site of a grand spiritual rebirth for many Lamanites (see 3 Nephi 9:20).
