The enormous destruction heaped upon the people causes them to revert to a humble realization of their spiritual eclipse, and thus repentance begins to supplant the forces of pride and rebellion that have overcome them. Once again, they see that their own iniquity has enervated them to the point of collapse “in the space of not many years” (Helaman 4:26). Hence they are able to regroup and regain a portion of their lands and cities under the leadership of Moronihah—but not all. Much is left to be accomplished.
