Pride: One Cause of War

Daniel H. Ludlow

Although the Book of Mormon lists several causes of war (wickedness, greed, personal ambition, selfishness, etc.), one of the most frequently listed causes is pride. Perhaps it should be obvious how pride could lead to war, because pride causes a person to feel he is better than others. Therefore, when a person or a nation is lifted up in "the pride of their hearts" they feel others should not have the same rights and privileges they have; thus they are willing to fight either to prevent other people from getting these rights or to gain other privileges for themselves.
