This peaceful interlude in an otherwise escalating course of contention reminds us that, while Mormon crafts his narrative to focus on explicit moral lessons, he is still using real events as his source. Thus, peace was a reality; but he deliberately mentions the dangerous and disruptive Gadianton robbers, foreshadowing their importance in the less-than-peaceful time coming for the Nephites.
