Did the settlers in the north maintain contact with the people of Zarahemla?

Thomas R. Valletta

“A thoughtful comment is made by Mormon in what is verse ten. He notes that many shiploads of timber were sent to the colonizers in the northern land by those who still dwelt in the land southward, or by those who were sent there for that purpose. Thus the Nephites still residing in the old homeland enabled the settlers of the land northward to continue their work of rehabilitation in a land that had been deforested by the pre-inhabitants thereof” (Reynolds and Sjodahl, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 5:214).
