According to Hugh Nibley, “these bands of robbers are not some exotic invention of romantic fancy, but a major factor in world history.” As examples from world history, Nibley lists Seth and his robber bands (from Egyptian literature), the Vikings, Pompey’s Pirates, the Robber Barons, the Assassins, the Kazaks, the Druze, and the Medellin drug lords, among others. He then describes members of these groups as terrorists, as they held off entire armies and overthrew kingdoms. (See Echoes, 480–481.)
