This turn of events rendered it easier for the restored government to meet the legitimate demands of the army, therefore, Moroni, its Commander-in-Chief, "immediately caused that provisions should be sent, and also an army of six thousand men should be sent unto Helaman, to assist him in preserving that part of the land." The same number of men together with an adequate supply of provisions were speedily dispatched to the army in the northeast under command of Lehi and Teancum. Moroni thought this latter of supreme importance because the area in which they were stationed was the key to the vast regions beyond, and to fortify it would be a deterrent to any invasion the Lamanites might attempt.
