There were certain elements of the Nephite population who were fickle and unstable. It was almost miraculous that Moroni and the chief judge had been able to maintain peace as long as they had. It turned out that Pahoran, the new chief judge, had barely settled into his new assignment when a contingent of ambitious leaders wanted to change the whole constitution of king Mosiah in a very significant way. Keeping in mind that the constitution of king Mosiah was adopted according to a revelation from God, here is what the radical element wanted to do:
