It is, of course, to Amalickiah’s advantage to be sure that the king’s servants do not remain alive to tell their tale; but their self-imposed exile is almost as good. It is interesting that they sought refuge in the land of Zarahemla. However, it is not clear whether they intended to seek out their fellow Lamanites in Jershon. If they did, it would indicate more communication between the Nephites and Lamanites than the record tells us about. More probably, they simply fled to Zarahemla, were captured, and were eventually settled with Ammon’s people who were so recently of the same land and culture as these fleeing servants.
