“That Whomsoever of the Amalickiahites That Would Not Enter into a Covenant to Support the Cause of Freedom Be Put to Death”

D. Kelly Ogden, Andrew C. Skinner

In times of war those who refused to submit to the cause of freedom, who willfully and knowingly continued to seek to subvert the cause of freedom and agency, or who remained defiantly rebellious were justifiably put to death. One is reminded of General George Washington executing subverters and traitors to the American cause during the Revolutionary War, even though they were members of the Continental Army.
