President Spencer W. Kimball used to say that the most important word in the English language may be remember (see commentary at Helaman 5:5–12). The Book of Mormon constantly iterates and reiterates: “Oh, remember, remember …” The Baal Shem Tov, leader of Hassidic Jewry in Eastern Europe over two and a half centuries ago, made a famous remark that for many years was emblazoned in giant letters at the exit of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem: “Forgetfulness leads to exile, but remembrance is the secret of redemption.”
