This encouraging revival of religious feeling dissipated very quickly. The churches had been established early in the nineteenth year of the reign of the judges, and some dissensions had already occurred before the year’s end (Alma 50:1). Thus, the revival lasted less than a year, signaling that pressures against the Nephite religion and way of life are mounting rapidly. These are internal dissensions, not Lamanite attacks. The Nephite political hegemony is beginning to fall apart from within.
