John Tvedtnes notes that the account of Alma's departure in the Book of Mormon is much closer to the account of Moses' departure given in Josephus (see Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews IV, 8, 48) than to the account in Deuteronomy, in that the Josephus account refers to the translation of Moses.
