“After They Entered into Covenant They Were Suffered to Depart into the Wilderness”

Brant Gardner

The code of honor operates in this final scene. Moroni accepts Zerahemnah’s promise and allows the Lamanites to depart “into the wilderness” without imposing any conditions other than the original ones: surrendering their weapons and entering a covenant of peace. Moroni has no way of knowing if Zerahemnah will keep his promise, but he accepts his promise. It is a story of honor on both sides.
