Alma praises the manifestations of righteousness that Shiblon has already made (“steadiness… faithfulness unto God… have commenced… to look to the Lord”), which assures that he will prosper in the land and be blessed for enduring to the end. Alma expresses confidence that Shiblon will continue in the path he has commenced.
Reference: The phrase “endure to the end” is unquestionably influenced by Matthew 10:22, with the same meaning: persistence in following the gospel path. Contemporary usage can give “endure” connotations of suffering that are not part of either the New Testament or Alma’s meaning. Rather it connotes permanence, since Alma commends Shiblon’s steadiness and faithfulness. (See commentary accompanying 2 Nephi 31:15.)
