Shiblon, son of Alma, is described by Mormon in the following terms: “And he was a just man, and he did walk uprightly before God; and he did observe to do good continually, to keep the commandments of the Lord his God” (Alma 63:2). Alma has taken Shiblon with him on his mission to the Zoramites about 74 BC, along with Shiblon’s brother Corianton, Amulek, Zeezrom, and three of the sons of Mosiah—Ammon, Aaron, and Omner (Alma 31:6–7). Shiblon performs his labors with honor, as Alma later confirms in his father’s blessing upon his son (Alma 38:3). Alma counsels Shiblon to put his trust in God and promises him that by doing so he will be delivered out of his trials and afflictions (many of which he suffers during his mission) and be “lifted up at the last day” (Alma 38:5).
The prophet-father bears firm testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ to his son and encourages him to continue teaching the word diligently and boldly, but without overbearance (see Alma 38:12). Shiblon obeys his father and is later mentioned by Mormon as being one among the circle of valiant disciples of the Lord responsible for bringing great blessings to the people: “Yea, and there was continual peace among them, and exceedingly great prosperity in the church because of their heed and diligence which they gave unto the word of God, which was declared unto them by Helaman, and Shiblon, and Corianton, and Ammon and his brethren, yea, and by all those who had been ordained by the holy order of God, being baptized unto repentance, and sent forth to preach among the people” (Alma 49:30). In the year 56 BC, Shiblon receives the sacred records from his older brother, Helaman, whom he succeeds as head of the Church (Alma 63:1). Three years later, in 53 BC, Shiblon conveys the records into the hands of his nephew, Helaman, son of Helaman, and passes away, having completed his fairly short earthly mission with distinction, honor, and enduring faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (see Alma 63:11).
