Just as Alma had done with Helaman, he invokes and personalizes the foundational promise, commenting that he had told Helaman the same thing. Since Mormon notes that Alma “gathered together” his sons “that he might give unto them every one his charge, separately” (Alma 35:16), Shiblon had not been present during the meeting between Alma and Helaman. Rather, Shiblon will essentially receive a similar blessing, although he would have understood that his older brother had the right and responsibility to care for the records.
