“Let All Thy Doings Be Unto the Lord; Counsel with the Lord”

Ed J. Pinegar, Richard J. Allen

We are to accept our Lord and Master as the central focus in our lives. Let us pray that all we think and do will reflect our love for God and His plan of salvation. Let us counsel with the Lord in all things so that we will be inspired to do good continually and always express gratitude for our blessings.

Consider the array of wonderful principles that Alma taught his son: teach the people to hate sin; preach repentance and faith in Jesus Christ; be humble, meek, and lowly of heart; withstand temptation through faith; and never be weary of good works. He admonished Helaman to learn wisdom in his youth; to keep the commandments; to pray for God’s support; to let all his doings be in the Lord; to let his thoughts be directed to the Lord, to let the affections of his heart be placed upon the Lord, to counsel with the Lord in all things so that the Lord would direct him to do good, to lie down unto the Lord at night; and in the morning to let his thanks be unto his Heavenly Father. What splendid counsel and advice! We should apply this wisdom to ourselves personally as well as teach these things to our children. Let us always remember the goodness of God, exercise our faith, and be diligent—so that we might receive the blessings of God in our lives.
