“Those Twenty-four Plates”
This refers to the Jaredite record, discovered by an expedition from the people of Limhi as they traveled from the land of Nephi in search of Zarahemla. They became lost in the wilderness, missed Zarahemla, and discovered instead what came to be known as Desolation, the site of the final Jaredite wars. There they discovered bones, weapons, and the twenty-four gold plates which had been buried in such a way as to be discovered in the due time of the Lord. These plates were compiled and prepared by Ether, translated originally by King Mosiah, and abridged by Moroni (see Mosiah 8:9; Mosiah 21:27; Mosiah 28:10-19; Ether 1:1-2).
