“Helaman is Take the Records and Keep a Record on the Plates of Nephi”

Monte S. Nyman

King Mosiah, son of Benjamin, commanded Alma, the son of Alma, to keep the various records and then to hand them down from one generation to another as had been done since Lehi left Jerusalem (see Mosiah 28:20). Alma now passes them on to the next generation through his son Helaman (Alma 37:1–2 above). There were several sets of records: The two separate sets of the plates of Nephi, which Helaman was to continue to record upon; the plates of brass brought from Jerusalem (v. 3); and the twenty-four plates of gold found by the people of Limhi (see v. 21). Helaman was to continue to record on the plates of Nephi, but the instructions given by Alma to Helaman were basically concerning the plates of brass (see vv. 3–12), and the twenty-four plates of the Jaredites (vv. 21–32). We will consider them in that order.
