The mighty change of heart always gives rise to feelings of gratitude and joy. In the perception of the contrast between opposites, learning of a fundamental nature takes place. In the transformation of the pain of guilt into the joy of deliverance, there emerges the understanding of what is meant by saving truth or “pure knowledge” (D&C 121:42)—for such knowledge derives from the light of the Redemption. That is what Alma experiences in his young years when the guidance of the Lord purges from his soul every vestige of rebellion—and prepares him for his ministry as a worthy servant of the Lord. What a powerful lesson to share with his son, and by extension, with all of us.
