Amulek is addressing a people with two strikes against them. They are part of the Zoramite clan of dissenters who have left the mainstream of the Nephite religion to pursue a faulty system of worship, one that denies the Christ. In addition, they are poverty-stricken outcasts who have been relegated to the fringes of their own social structure. They are wallowing in doubt and hopelessness. Amulek tells them to act now to address the destructive patterns in their lives and lift themselves up to a station of favor with God where they can enjoy an immediate transformation of their spiritual condition and rejoice in the blessings of the Atonement. Procrastination needlessly deprives us of the immediate blessings of the gospel. We are here in mortality to learn how to overcome the flesh. Where much is given, much is required (see D&C 82:3). Now is the time to act in harmony with gospel principles.
