“A Stop to the Shedding of Blood”
When the resurrected Lord appeared to the Nephites, he told them: “I am the light and the life of the world. I am Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end.... And ye shall offer up unto me no more the shedding of blood ... And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit.” (3 Nephi 9:18-20.) In our day that same Lord has commanded: “Thou shalt offer a sacrifice unto the Lord thy God in righteousness, even that of a broken heart and a contrite spirit” (D&C 59:8; compare Psalms 51:17; Isaiah 66:2; 2 Nephi 2:7).
