“Believe in the Son of God”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The beginning of Alma 33 records that those to whom Alma had delivered his marvelous discourse about planting the seed of faith and attempting an experiment upon the word inquired of him how they should plant the seed or the word of which he had spoken. Alma responded by quoting the thanksgiving psalm of Zenos, a passage from Zenock, and the story of Moses’ raising a snake upon a pole and inviting those afflicted by poisonous snakes to look upon it. Having done this, Alma testified that salvation comes only by “belief in the Son of God.” That is, salvation comes only to those who embrace the doctrine that Christ is literally God’s son.
