Alma turned to another Old Testament prophet as a second witness to the role of the Son in showing mercy (v. 14). Zenock had apparently also taught about prayer or worship, but Alma quoted only a brief comment from him (v. 16). Again Alma assumed the Zoramites were familiar with Zenock’s writings as he reminds them of his being stoned to death (v. 17). Zenock seems to have been a well-known character in ancient times. Nephi, son of Lehi, had quoted his prophecy of the coming crucifixion of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, or Jesus Christ (see 1 Nephi 19:10). More is said of both Zenos and Zenock later in the Book of Mormon (see 3 Nephi 10:16).
