Alma continues the analogy. A good seed which has begun to grow can die from inattention or poor care. A new convert who begins to immerse themselves in Anti-Mormon literature is not caring for the new shoot, but immediately exposing it to a scorching sun that will actually make the plant grow better when the young plant is stronger. It isn’t that there is anything damning in the literature, but rather the timing that is critical. There are some strong suns which are better for the more mature plant, and would be dangerous to the new shoot. Alma stresses that such a failure is not a failure of the seed, but rather of the farmer.
