Notice how gently Alma has used this parable to lead the thinking of the people to a new kind of understanding without offending them. The last three verses of this chapter are Alma's plea to these humble, simple people, to diligently cultivate the seed of faith until it produces the tree that will bring forth the rich harvest of knowledge they are seeking.
