Alma also wants to make sure that the people did not come seeking signs but really want to be taught the pure, simple gospel for its own sake. However he warns them that if he tells them the truth and what God expects them to do and they "doeth it not" they will be condemned, for every man is judged according to his works after he has been taught what to do.
