The proclamation sent by the chief judge was effective. All were converted again unto the Lord (vv. 57–58). Korihor had perverted the ways of the Lord and was trodden down (v. 59). The devil did not support him at the last day (v. 60). The wicked Zoramites had punished the wicked Korihor. “It is by the wicked that the wicked are punished” (Mormon 4:5). We do not know the eternal state of Korihor, but having knowingly rebelled against God his sins were very serious (see Mosiah 2:37–39; 16:5). The devil did not support Korihor at the end, nor will he at the last day. The same is true of us in this day. A fitting conclusion to the commentary of this chapter are the words of Jacob, brother of Nephi.
28 O that cunning plan of the evil one! O the vainness, and the frailties, and the foolishness of men! When they are learned they think they are wise, and they hearken not unto the counsel of God, for they set it aside, supposing they know of themselves, wherefore, their wisdom is foolishness and it profiteth them not. And they shall perish.
29 But to be learned is good if they hearken unto the counsels of God. (2 Nephi 9:28–29)
Conclusion: After so many witnesses (Alma 30:45), men still follow the devil. The devil will not support his followers at the last day, but will speedily drag them down to hell (Alma 30:60).
“And it came to pass that peace and the love of God was restored again among the people; and they searched the scriptures, and hearkened no more to the words of this wicked man” (Jacob 7:23).
