Culture: Without the ability to hear or speak, Korihor became a beggar. Although he could write, this skill would probably not help him communicate with a largely illiterate population. Even as a farmhand, he would be handicapped. He apparently owned no land. Indeed, his literacy suggests an urban background. Bereft of a livelihood, Korihor could only beg. This may have been a slow but inevitable death sentence. It certainly turned out that way when Korihor begged among the Zoramites (Alma 30:59).
