Korihor has given Alma a flat rejection, which Alma in turn rejects. Korihor has just denied Yahweh, but again Alma perceives something dishonest about Korihor’s answer. To make sure that Korihor continues to condemn himself, Alma not only restates the question about belief in Yahweh but presents it in a form that makes the denial more certain.
Alma asks if Korihor will again deny Yahweh. This rephrasing gives Korihor a chance to change his answer, but he again refuses. Alma then bears his own testimony of Yahweh—that there will be an Atoning Messiah—contrasting it to Korihor’s statement that there is not. However, Alma implies that the two statements are not equal. Korihor’s is supported by his word only while, by implication, Alma has more. What is this additional element? Almost certainly it is Alma’s own dramatic conversion by an angel and subsequent experiences with the Spirit. Almost certainly everyone in his audience, except perhaps Korihor himself, would know Alma’s additional reasons for belief.
