The king and the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi certainly had faith unto salvation. They had “an actual knowledge that the course of life which [they were] pursuing [was] according to [the Lord’s] will” (L on F, 1:5). Ammon, by going into the city first (v. 15) may have been to appease the Lamanite king, but he was more likely preparing the people of Zarahemla. After all, Ammon had been gone from Zarahemla for fourteen years. The leadership and sentiments of the people may have changed during that time. Although the Lord had told Ammon to take the people there, these were Lamanites and the group was large enough to occupy an entire land, even a part of the larger land of Zarahemla (see v. 22 and v. 26 below).
