Returning to Aaron’s accusation of boasting, Ammon now exults in his boasting in Yahweh; because of Yahweh’s goodness, he has been “carried away, even unto boasting in my God.”
Ammon describes “this people” as “a branch of the tree of Israel” that “has been lost from its body in a strange land.” While we do not have many quotations from Book of Mormon prophets of their predecessors, this reference to Jacob’s analogy of the olive tree clearly documents Ammon’s knowledge of that record. It seems reasonable to assume their familiarity with this body of scripture whether they mention it or not.
