“When Our Hearts Were Depressed”

Brant Gardner

Ammon minimizes the difficulties of their mission. He could have dwelt on the imprisonment and ill treatment of his brethren in Middoni. There were likely other difficult times. As Ammon notes, there were times when “our hearts were depressed, and we were about to turn back.” They did not do so because the “Lord comforted us,” and reaffirmed their mission.

Modern readers may also see themselves in this short statement. There are many times when our own hearts are depressed in the face of a difficult task. That same comfort of the Lord is available to us when we are on his errand.
