In the labors of Aaron and the others who accompanied him in the mission field, it was the Divine Providence of Him who guided their footsteps to lead them among a "hardened and a stiffnecked people." They were even more so than those who dwelt in the Land of Ishmael where Ammon ministered. The people there would not listen to the message the missionaries bore, let alone receive them into their homes, but instead drove them from house to house, from "place to place" until at last the missionaries came to what was the Land of Middoni. Here they were almost immediately cast into prison; they were bound with strong cords, and for many days, or until they were rescued by Ammon and Lamoni, were treated with all the inhumanities the evil nature of their captors could devise or even suggest.
