While attempting to establish common ground, Ammon also recounts the sacred story of the Lehites, clearly from a Nephite perspective. We cannot tell whether this Lamanite king was of a lineage which understood any of this heritage, or whether this is new information to him. In any case, Ammon is establishing a connection by lineage to the Lamanites, and a connection from God to the Lamanites. Ammon is creating a shorter distance for the understanding of King Lamoni to travel.
