It says much about Amulek’s character that his first reaction is to the suffering of others and only secondarily to the possibility of his own demise. Alma is calmly willing to be a martyr (as was Abinadi) should it be Yahweh’s will. However, he apparently has a witness of the Spirit that “our work is not finished” and that they will somehow be spared this fate.
