“Holy Calling”
That Alma referred to the priesthood as a “holy calling” is most appropriate and descriptive. “The rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven,” Joseph Smith said, and “the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.” Thus the Prophet declared that the scepter of the priesthood must be “an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth.” (D&C 121:36, 46.)
