The Ammonihahites had originally occupied “the same standing” as the Nephites. They were part of the Nephite politico-religious sphere and had the opportunity to receive the blessings of true priesthood. However, those blessings were given only to those who would not harden their hearts, which the Ammonihahites had done. Alma continues to associate true priesthood with the Son (Atoning Messiah), in whom the Ammonihahites do not believe.
