“Hardness of Their Hearts and Blindness of Their Minds”

Joseph F. McConkie, Robert L. Millet

The voice of the Spirit speaks to us in our hearts and minds (see D&C 8:2). Gospel understanding can be neither heartless nor mindless. Neither feeling nor intellect, standing alone, is sufficient to bring the understanding and faith essential to salvation. Thus in the pre-earth life those who rejected the fulness of gospel blessings did it as it is done in mortality that is, by ignoring the feelings of their hearts and by closing the windows of their minds to light and truth.
