Notice that in verse 37 Alma refers to God's "second commandments." He is talking about the law of Moses or the law of carnal commandments, which were given to Israel after they insulted God by worshiping a golden calf. Paul says in Galatians 3:19 that these second commandments were added because of transgression, so that Israel could survive as a people until the Savior was born in their midst. Now Alma is saying that if they continue to violate even these second commandments they really can expect the wrath of God to poured out upon them.
