This verse talks about everlasting destruction and the torments that are like fire and brimstone. However modern revelation has clarified these terms and explained that the place of punishment is eternal but the unrepentant wicked only remain in this place until they have paid the uttermost farthing for the deeds which they have done. They must satisfy the demands of justice. The scriptures say that except for the sons of perdition all mankind are ultimately "redeemed," either by bringing their sins under the Savior's atonement or by suffering for their own sins to the uttermost farthing. This whole procedure is described by the Lord in the Doctrine and Covenants 76:36-39.
