“It Came to Pass That Amulek Went and Stood Forth”

Text: This is the end of a chapter in the 1830 edition and, not coincidentally, is the end of Alma’s inserted speech. The next chapter quotes Amulek’s speech. Again we see Mormon’s pattern of a terminal verse that, in more modern texts, would be the next chapter’s introduction. His editorial model apparently uses the actual inserted text as the major category while the linking texts have secondary priority. He positions the actual text, which is of greater importance, in pride of place at the chapter’s opening.
