Missionaries sometimes encounter rejection and persecution as they seek to take the message of our Savior Jesus Christ to all the world. Every missionary can tell his or her story, “I’ll never forget the time when …” Such was the case with Elder Simpson, a wonderful missionary I had the pleasure of serving with in the England London South Mission. He, like Alma, had not been successful in a certain area—but he had the persistence of Alma. He had reviewed the area control book (containing the vital information about the area, including the names of former investigators). He found a family that had been taught the discussions two or three times previously. As the Spirit worked upon him, he and his companion were inspired to return there. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Yes, they had success. This time the family was ready to make the commitment to be baptized. I will never forget his phone call. He was full of excitement and joy when he said, “Remember that family in Southampton that had been taught several times? They are going to be baptized! Isn’t that great, President?” I too was full of joy for the family and for Elder Simpson and his companion. As the elders were obedient in reviewing the area control book, the Lord inspired them to know what to do … just like Alma and Amulek. (Ed J. Pinegar)
