King Benjamin taught the principle in his address: “And see that all these things are done in wisdom and order; for it is not requisite that a man should run faster than he has strength. And again, it is expedient that he should be diligent, that thereby he might win the prize; therefore, all things must be done in order” (Mosiah 4:27).
Where was the land of Melek? (8:1–3) “The boundaries of this land are very indistinctly stated. … However, two things are positively stated … namely, that it was west of the River Sidon, and that it extended westward as far as the narrow strip of wilderness which ran north and south between the mountains and the [ocean]. … That it embraced a large district of country is proved by the fact that … Alma … traveled three days’ journey on the north of the Land of Melek before he came to the City of Ammonihah. … It was the king’s land. The ancient Phoenician word for king is spelled letter for letter the same as in the Book of Mormon (Melek), and the Hebrew word is almost identical” (Reynolds and Sjodahl, Commentary on the Book of Mormon, 3:145).
