Reference: While the imagery of sitting with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is clearly Jewish, the phrasing is closer to the New Testament than the Old. The only biblical parallel is found in Matthew: “And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 8:11). It joins the numerous other examples suggesting that Joseph, in translating, had the freedom of expressing the plate text in terms familiar to him.
