Alma, the younger, early in the course of his remarks to the Saints in Zarahemla, proved to them his divine right to minister in the ordinances of the Priesthood and to hold the position of High Priest over the Church. Definitely, he outlined unto them his sacred calling. Proudly, he published the good name of his father who had consecrated him the earthly head of the Church and its Presiding Officer, a position the elder Alma had held until he appointed his son to succeed him.
1 Alma recounted to the Saints the experiences of the Church, the problems and vicissitudes through which it had passed since his intrepid father, boldly and fearlessly, established a Branch of it at a place called Mormon in the Land of Lehi-Nephi. (Ibid., pp. 193-196) He also pointed out that his father had not only organized a Church there, by the authority of the Priesthood which he held, Mosiah 25:19) All these things were done by my father, “he having power and authority from God” to do them, Alma said.
Alma, besides making that somewhat brief mention of the Church established by his father in Lehi-Nephi, also noted that the believing ones (204 souls) were baptized by his father in the Waters of Mormon, which were near where they congregated for worship and for prayer.
